Is there a more jolly time of year than the holiday period? There's just something in the air when the warmer weather hits and we see the first decorations start to illuminate the spaces in our lives. As we head towards the New Year to welcome in 2024, let's reflect on the incredible memories and accomplishments of 2023.
Nelson Bay: A Year of Sparkling Success
February brought with it the grand opening of our beautiful Nelson Bay store. It was a celebration and testament to the store’s constant pursuit of perfection towards its craft. We have been in the Salamander Bay area for many years and the support of the local community has been heartening.
Port Macquarie: A Year in the Limelight
As we venture further up the coast, our Port Macquarie store marked its first birthday in August. This new chapter wasn't just about an expansion, it was proof of our commitment towards bringing fine jewellery to every corner of the coast.
Celebrating Keira: 15-years at Singleton
November was welcomed with the celebration of Keira, currently our Singleton store manager, and her 15 years of hardwork and dedication to our customers at Matthews Jewellers. Keira joined us when we first opened our store at Charlestown square in 2008. Her passion for customer service and firecracker personality brings so much fun to our stores and team.
Our Resident Kotara Gemologist: Celebrating Kellee
In the spirit of the holiday season, our Kotara store shines even brighter with the latest achievement of one of our staff members Kellee. Kellee has officially become a certified gemologist this year! Studying part time over the past four years Kellee has attended her courses in Sydney and worked part time, all the while supporting her family. This is a great achievement and we’re very proud of her. Well done!
A Year of Giving Back:
At Matthews, we strive to extend our impact beyond our retail stores. This year, we embraced the season of giving all-year round through a multiple of proud initiatives:
International Women's Day Fundraiser Luncheon at the Newcastle Race Club:
We helped raise over $46,000 on the day to go toward EquiEnergy Youth and Mosaic Multicultural Connections, two local charities providing care, support and services in the areas of settlement, families and young people, aged care, and community development. A special shout out to Ali Kimmorley for the wonderful work she and her team do in organising such a fantastic event. They have managed to raise over $100,000 for local charities over the past few years and we’re excited to be part of many more.
Stars of Newcastle:
We got our dancing shoes on at the Stars of Newcastle, when we sponsored the talented Josh Lawlor from fellow local business Scrubba Body, all in support of the Cancer Council foundation. Dancing for a cause has never been more glamorous! Josh and the rest of the Stars raised $281k, smashing their target of $200k.
We have been honoured to also support a number of wonderful local charities and community organisations like the Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group (TBCSG), Hastings Rotaract, and Sunrise Rotary's Annual Big Dig Family Fun Day.
